That's one breathtakingly good horror film performance

Don't Breathe has scared off competition from DC's villainous Suicide Squad for a second week running to take the number one spot at the US box office yet again this week.

The horror movie took $15m over the course of a quiet Labor Day weekend, taking its total earnings up to $51m.

David Ayer's Suicide Squad may have just missed out on the top spot, but taking another $10 million this week means that it's continuing to prove those critics wrong, making a respectable total of $297m so far.

Disney's Pete's Dragon remake performs well in its fourth week, rising three places to 6, while Kubo and the Two Strings is down to 4 with $6.4m.

Just behind is Seth Rogen's outrageous animated comedy Sausage Party, while Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander's new romantic movie The Light Between Oceans is new in at 6, taking nearly $5m.

Mila Kunis' comedy Bad Moms is up one to 8, and Jonah Hill's War Dogs is still going all guns blazing at 8.

Finally, Hell or High Water and Jason Statham's latest action movie Mechanic: Resurrection round out the top ten.
