Don't Breathe scares off Suicide Squad at the US box office

The horror takes the top spot during a quiet weekend


The US has a new number one film after Don't Breathe scared Suicide Squad off the top of the box office.

The new horror movie took $26m in its opening weekend, knocking David Ayer's DC movie down to number two during a quiet week.

Suicide Squad might not be a hit with the critics, but its total earnings are now up to $282m in the US box office after four weeks of release.

Kubo and the Two Strings performed well this week and moves up to number 3, just above Seth Rogen's animated comedy Sausage Party at 4.

Jason Statham is back in action in Mechanic: Resurrection, which arrives at 5 with $7.5m, and Disney's remake of children's classic Pete's Dragon is at 6.

Jonah Hill and Miles Teller's comedy drama War Dogs is down four places to 7 with $7.2m and Mila Kunis' comedy Bad Moms stays at 8 with $5.7m.

Matt Damon's Jason Bourne is still going strong in this week's top ten, scoring another $5m this week to place 9th, while the 2016 remake of classic movie Ben-Hur rounds out the top ten with $4.5m.
