Ghostbusters misses out on US box office success

The reboot made $46m in its first week


Ghostbusters has missed out on the US box office after The Secret Life of Pets held onto the top spot with $50m.

Paul Feig's reboot took $46m in its first week, and narrowly lost out on number one.

Elsewhere, The Legend of Tarzan is at 3 with $11.1m, Finding Dory is at 4 with $11m and Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates is at 5 with $7.5m.

Horror sequel The Purge: Election Year takes $6m at 6, while Central Intelligence is at 7 with $5.3m.

Meanwhile, The Infiltrator is new at 8 with $5.2m and The BFG is at 9 $3.7m.

Finally, Independence Day: Resurgence rounds out the top ten making $3.4m.

The top ten in full is as follows:

3. (2) The Legend of Tarzan - $11,120,000

4. (3) Finding Dory - $11,040,000

7. (6) Central Intelligence - $5,300,000

8. (-) The Infiltrator - $5,287,124

9. (7) The BFG - $3,747,000
