The Martian stays number one at US box office

The Martian has remained the number one movie for the second week at the US box office.


Starring Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain, the Ridley Scott-directed movie took in $37m, adding to its total of $108.7m.

Hotel Transylvania 2 and The Intern also kept their spots from last weekend - the former at second place with $20.3m and the latter at fourth place with $8.6m.

Meanwhile, Pan had an unimpressive debut, landing at third place with $15.5m.

Starring Hugh Jackman, Rooney Mara and Garrett Hedlund, Pan tells the story of how a young orphan boy named Peter became the hero known as Peter Pan.

The Walk, on the other hand, managed to climb up from last weekend's eleventh spot to seventh place with $3.6m.

Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, The Walk tells the real-life story of high-wire artist Philippe Petit's dream to to walk between the World Trade Centre towers in 1974.

Sicaro slipped two spots to fifth place with $7.3m, followed by Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials in sixth place with $5.2m.

Black Mass at eight with $3.1m, Everest at ninth with $3m and The Visit at tenth with $2.4m round up the top ten list at the US box office.

The US weekend box office top 10 for October 9-11 is as follows:

2. (2) Hotel Transylvania 2 - $20,300,000

4. (4) The Intern - $8,660,000
5. (3) Sicario - $7,350,000
6. (5) Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials - $5,250,000
7. (11) The Walk - $3,650,000
8. (6) Black Mass - $3,130,000
9. (7) Everest (2015) - $3,030,000
10. (8) The Visit - $2,420,000
