No Good Deed debuts at number one at US box office

No Good Deed has debuted at number one at the US box office.



The thriller, starring Idris Elba as an escaped convict who terrorises a woman home alone with her two children, took $24.5m in its first weekend in theatres.

Dolphin Tale 2 takes the second spot, making $16.5m in it's first week, knocking Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy into third place with weekend earnings of $8m.

Paramount's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles drops two places to number four, while Let's Be Cops also falls two spots to five.

The Drop, starring Tom Hardy and the late James Gandolfini, debuts at number seven with a gross of $4.2m.

If I Stay falls three places to seven, while The November Man moves from number five down to eight with takings of $2.7m.

Falling two places is The Giver, which lands at number nine with $2.6m, and The Hundred-Foot Journey completes the top 10 with $2.4m.

The US weekend box office top 10 for September 14 is as follows:

5. (3) Let's Be Cops - $4,300,000

7. (4) If I Stay - $4,050,000
8. (5) The November Man - $2,750,000
9. (7) The Giver - $$2,626,000
10. (9) The Hundred-Foot Journey - $2,461,000
