Transformers scores biggest box office opening of 2014

Transformers: Age of Extinction has shot straight to number one at the US box office.



The Michael Bay sequel, starring Mark Wahlberg as a father and failed inventor working with the autobots, took $100m during its opening weekend.

Transformers knocked last week's number one film, Think Like A Man Too, off the top spot and down to number four.

22 Jump Street remains at number two, while How To Train Your Dragon 2 stays in the third spot after taking a little over $13m.

Angelina Jolie's Maleficent stays at five, and Jersey Boys drops two places down to six.

Edge of Tomorrow, starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, took $5m, meaning it's at seven, while The Fault in our Stars falls one place to eight.

Also falling one place is X-Men: Days of Future Past, which is at number nine with $3.3m.

Remaining in the tenth spot is Jon Favreau's Chef, with a little over $1.5m.

The US weekend box office top ten for June 27 is as follows:

7. (6) Edge of Tomorrow - $5,210,000
8. (7) The Fault in our Stars - $4,800,000
9. (8) X-Men: Days of Future Past - $3,300,000
10. (10) Chef - $1,654,000
