James Cameron and Francis Ford Coppola have reportedly clashed over the future of 3D films.

Avatar director Cameron said 2D would soon be outdated as the industry standard, with 3D technology being embraced in all forms of entertainment.

However, Coppola argued that 3D was now "tiresome" and said he couldn't see the benefit, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Cameron, who was talking at a technology forum in Seoul, said sports coverage and music industry videos would soon succumb to the lure of 3D. He likened its introduction to that of sound and colour in motion pictures.

"Avatar has proved that 3D technology is not just a fad but a revolution changing how the audience chooses to consume media and entertainment content," the 56-year-old said.

Coppola apparently countered: "I don't see why a movie is better in 3D. I personally do not want to watch a movie with glasses. It's tiresome."
