‘Thor 2′ wins again at US box office

Thor: The Dark World has taken the number one spot at the US box office for the second week in a row.

The superhero sequel – starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleston – took in $38.4m with its total gross now at $146.9m. It debuted in first place last weekend with $86.1m.

Thor: The Dark World saw competition in The Best Man Holiday, which was $8m shy of taking the top spot. The film debuted in second place with $30.5m.

Directed and written by Malcolm D Lee, The Best Man Holiday stars Taye Diggs, Sanaa Lathan, Terrence Howard, Nia Long, Regina Hall, Harold Perrineau and Morris Chestnut. It is a follow-up to the 1999 movie The Best Man.

Last weekend’s second place Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa slipped to fifth with $7.6m. Its total earnings are now $90.2m. The film debuted at the number one spot in October, dethroning Gravity.

Sandra Bullock’s Gravity, which remained the top US movie for three consecutive weekends, kept its number six place with $6.2m. It’s total US box office gross is at $240.5mm.

Ender’s Game, which also took first place on its debut earlier this month, fell from fifth place to seventh with $6.2m. Its total earnings stand at $53.7m.

The critically-acclaimed drama 12 Years a Slave slid one spot to eighth place with $6.2m. Its total earnings are now $24.9m.

Last Vegas, Free Birds, Captain Phillips and About Time make up the top ten list.
