'Ender's Game' tops US box office

The science fiction drama Ender's Game has topped the US box office this weekend.

Harrison Ford's latest movie attracted considerable controversy ahead its of release due to the original Ender's Game author Orson Scott Card's anti-gay comments, but still managed to earn $28m in its debut.

Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa finished in second position with $20.5m, after dominating the competition last weekend.

The comedy Last Vegas - which stars Robert De Niro and Morgan Freeman - and the animated film Free Birds charted in third and fourth place respectively in their first weekend of release.

The Sandra Bullock-starring Gravity continued its strong run at the US box office by rounding out the top five.

Historical drama 12 Years a Slave continued its climb up the chart by finishing in seventh position with $4.6m.

Escape Plan and Enough Said both fell out of the top ten this weekend.
