Helena Bonham Carter joins 'Cinderella'

Helena Bonham Carter has been cast as the fairy godmother in Disney's Cinderella.



The Great Expectations actress will star opposite Lily James in the title role and Cate Blanchett as the evil stepmother, reveals The Hollywood Reporter.

The report claims that the fairy godmother will play a larger role than in Disney's 1950 animation, with the character disguised as an old beggar who watches over Cinderella before revealing her true identity.

Game of Thrones star Richard Madden will play the prince, while Sophie McShera and Holliday Grainger have signed up as the stepsisters.

Kenneth Branagh will direct the movie, which is expected to begin filming in London this autumn.

Bonham Carter will soon be seen playing Elizabeth Taylor in BBC drama Burton and Taylor, and will next appear on the big screen in Disney's The Lone Ranger.
