The network released a statement earlier today revealing that it had decided not to renew the series for a third season.

"TBS has reached the difficult decision not to order a third season of Lopez Tonight," read the statement.

The network went on to confirm that the last episode of the George Lopez talkshow will air this Thursday.

"Thursday will be the final episode of the show," the statement continued. "We are proud to have partnered with George Lopez, who is an immensely talented comedian and entertainer. TBS has valued its partnership with George and appreciates all of his work on behalf of the network, both on and off the air."

Lopez Tonight premiered in November 2009, with the 50-year-old comedian becoming the first Hispanic American to host a late-night talkshow.

Lopez recently finalised his divorce from his wife Ann. The two had been married since 1993.

Last month, the comedian confirmed that he is seriously considering running for mayor of Los Angeles.
