FOX has given the green light to two shows currently in their third seasons: “Gotham” and “The Last Man on Earth” will each be back for fourth seasons in 2017-18

The network made the pickups late Wednesday, capping (probably?) a very busy day of series renewals and cancellations.

Neither show has been a huge ratings driver this season, but both were also considered likely renewals before Wednesday’s confirmation. Shows with three full seasons under their belts, like “Gotham,” tend to be renewed.

“The Last Man on Earth” hasn’t had three “full,” 22-episode seasons; it ended Season 3 on Sunday with its 49th episode. The 20th Century Fox-produced show will likely have between 65 and 70 episodes by the end of next season, a decent library in the streaming era (Hulu has streaming rights to the series).

“Gotham” is averaging a 1.1 rating among adults 18-49 in its initial airing this season, along with 3.4 million viewers. It improves to 1.9 and 5.36 million with a week of DVR and on-demand viewing.

“The Last Man on Earth,” meanwhile, finished its season with same-day averages of 0.9 and 2.12 million viewers, improving to 1.5 and 3.34 million after seven days.

The two shows join seven other FOX scripted series — “Bob’s Burgers,” “Empire,” “Lethal Weapon,” “Lucifer,” “The Mick,” “The Simpsons” and “Star” — on the schedule for next season. The network has also picked up four new shows thus far: comedies “Ghosted” and “LA to Vegas” and dramas “The Gifted” and “The Resident.”
