This afternoon, the network has officially its renewed its sophomore medical drama, “The Good Doctor,” for a third season, and its rookie series, “A Million Little Things,” for a second. They now join “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” as the three scripted ABC titles confirmed to be returning for the next TV season.

They are also the first renewals for ABC Entertainment president, Karey Burke, who took over in the position after the exit of Channing Dungey last year.

Created by DJ Nash, “A Million Little Things” follows a group of friends who become motivated to start living fuller lives, following the unexpected death of a close friend. It stars David Giuntoli, Romany Malco, Allison Miller, Christina Marie Moses, Christina Ochoa, Ron Livingston, Stephanie Szostak, James Roday, and more.

After struggling Wednesday nights, “A Million Little Things” has benefitted considerably from its move to ABC’s post-“Grey’s Anatomy” time slot Thursday nights. Since its move, the freshman drama has tied its season high in adults 18-49 for three straight weeks, in addition to doing particularly well in delayed viewing.

Starring Freddie Highmore in the titular role, “The Good Doctor” focuses on Shaun Murphy, a young surgeon with autism and Savant syndrome, when he is recruited into the surgical unit at a prestigious hospital. Along with Highmore, the David Shore-created drama also stars Nicholas Gonzalez, Antonia Thomas, Tamlyn Tomita, Hill Harper, Richard Schiff, and more.

While the medical drama has been unable to match the same kind of breakout hit numbers that it produced in its first season, “The Good Doctor” has generated a solid, steady performance throughout its second season. Along with usually winning its 10 p.m. hour on Monday nights, the series is still ABC’s second-highest-rated drama with a 1.1 average live + same day rating and an average of 6.72 million viewers.

“A Million Little Things” airs Thursday nights on ABC, while “The Good Doctor” airs Mondays.
