Announced this morning, Showtime has officially renewed the freshman crime drama for a second season. The series is set to air its first season finale on Sunday, August 18.

Created by Chuck MacLean, “City on a Hill” is set in In 1990s Boston, and follows an assistant district attorney and a corrupt FBI veteran as they work together to take on a case that continues to evolve, until it ultimately subverts, the entire criminal justice system of the city.

The show’s ensemble cast includes Kevin Bacon, Aldis Hodge, Jonathan Tucker, Mark O’Brien, Lauren E. Banks, Amanda Clayton, and more. Tom Fontana serves as showrunner on the series, in addition to executive producing it alongside MacLean, Jennifer Todd, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Barry Levinson, and Michael Cuesta.

“City on a Hill is that addictive kind of meaty and messy show we love at Showtime,” said Showtime Entertainment President, Gary Levine. “With the inspired pairing of Kevin Bacon and Aldis Hodge and the inspired writing of Tom Fontana and Chuck MacLean, we believe there is a rich future for this compelling series.”

In its first season, “City on a Hill” has been averaging a 0.1 live + same day rating among adults 18-49 and 457,000 viewers. According to Showtime though, the series is averaging a total of 3.5 million viewers per week, across all platforms.
