With only a few episodes left in the crime drama’s fourth season, TNT has officially renewed “Animal Kingdom” for a fifth season today. The series, which is based on the 2010 Australian film of the same name, remains one of the network’s more consistent ratings performers.

Created for television by Jonathan Lisco, “Animal Kingdom” focuses on a Southern California family, whose excessive lifestyle is made possible by their own criminal activities. Its cast includes Ellen Barkin, Finn Cole, Shawn Hatosy, Ben Robson, Jake Weary, Molly Gordon, Carolina Guerra, Aamya Deva Keroles, Scott Speedman, and more. The show’s fourth season has also featured the addition of “Bones” star, Emily Deschanel, in a recurring role.

The series is produced by John Wells Productions and Warner Horizon Scripted Television. John Wells and Eliza Clark serve as executive producers on the series, alongside the 2010 film’s writer and director, David Michod, and producer Liz Watts.

In its first four seasons, “Animal Kingdom” has remained a fairly steady ratings performer year-to-year. It is currently averaging a 0.3 live + same day rating among adults 18-49 this year, down just a tenth from the 0.4 that it averaged across its first three seasons.

The show’s third season was its most-watched to date, averaging 1.31 million L+SD viewers, while its current season has fallen a bit – raking in a 1.19 million viewer average up to this point. But despite the show’s slight ratings decline, it still ranks as one of this year’s top 10 cable dramas among adults 18-49 in the live +7 ratings.
