Syfy has another batch of cancellations to add to its already-growing pile for the season

First up is “Happy!,” a series about disgraced detective Nick Sax (Christopher Meloni) who moonlights as a hitman to afford his continual substance abuse. But after he is nearly killed by a massive heart attack, he finds himself followed by a tiny, blue, flying unicorn, Happy (Patton Oswalt), who only Sax can see. Together, they seek to rescue a girl kidnapped by a maniac dressed as Santa Claus, who Sax only knows about due to Happy’s intervention.

The second series on the chopping block is “Deadly Class,” which follows a homeless teenager, Marcus Lopez Arguello, who is recruited to King’s Dominion, a school in which the most elite crime families enroll the next generation of criminals. For the latest student at King’s Dominion, overcoming the struggles of adolescence is only one of a slew of problems he’ll face if he wants to survive. The series stars Benedict Wong, Benjamin Wadsworth, and Lana Condor.

“Happy!” survived two seasons at Syfy. Ratings-wise, the first was stronger than the second, downgrading from a 0.4 to a 0.3 average in live + same day ratings in adults 18-49. As for “Deadly Class,” the series was not renewed for a second season, with an average rating across its first scoring about a 0.1 per episode, with 0.39 million viewers.

“Happy!” and “Deadly Class” will join other recent Syfy cancellations “Nightflyers” and “Channel Zero,” as well as “Killjoys,” which is in its final season. The network does retain a strong lineup, however, with “Krypton,” “Van Helsing,” and “The Magicians,” as well as the possibility of the return of “Wynonna Earp.”
