Announced this morning, “Shooter” has officially been canceled by the network. The news of which comes as the Ryan Philippe-led action series continues to move farther into the second half of its current, third – and now final – season. The series finale is set to air on Wednesday, Sept. 13.

“Shooter” is based on the 2007 film of the same name, and follows Philippe as Bob Lee Swagger, a highly-decorated veteran who is coaxed back into action to prevent a plot to kill the President. But when Swagger discovers that he has been framed, he must do everything in his power to protect his family and clear his name. Shantel VanSanten, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, and Omar Epps round out the “Shooter” ensemble.

The series has been underperforming in the ratings this year, with a 0.2 live + same day average rating throughout its third season with 738,000 average viewers, half of the 0.4 L+SD average of its previous season. It currently ranks as USA’s lowest-rated drama in the adults 18-49 demographic.

The news of the “Shooter” cancellation comes just a few weeks after USA said goodbye to another one of its original series, the sci-fi title, “Colony.” However, the network has also made another big push in developing its programming lineup, with USA handing out series orders for a total of 4 new titles, including a spin-off set in the same universe as the “Jason Bourne” films.

“Shooter” airs every Thursday night on USA.
