The creator of “Castle” has earned a straight-to-series order from ABC for a new series … that sounds an awful lot like his old one

ABC has given the green light to “Take Two” from Andrew Marlowe and fellow “Castle” EP Terri Edda Miller (they’re also husband and wife). The show will star Rachel Bilson as the former star of a TV crime show who’s just out of rehab. She talks her way into shadowing a private eye (Eddie Cibrian) as a way to possibly restart her career — and ends up helping him more than he would have thought.

So, yes, it’s basically “Castle” with a flipped gender dynamic.

ABC Studios is co-producing the show with international partner Tandem Productions, a division of StudioCanal. In addition to the ABC pickup, “Take Two” has also secured on-air commitments from outlets in France (France 2) and Germany (RTL/VOX).

“Andrew and Terri are wonderful storytellers and this is the perfect project for their return to ABC,” ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey says in a statement. “We’re excited to see Rachel and Eddie bring these characters to life.”

“Take Two” is the second straight-to-series order ABC has given to a key member of the “Castle” team recently. The network also picked up “The Rookie,” a based-on-a-true-story drama starring Nathan Fillion as a middle-aged man who becomes the oldest recruit at the L.A. Police Academy. Alexi Hawley, a former “Castle” showrunner, created that series.

There’s no word yet on when “Take Two” might see the light of day at ABC.
