TNT announced Tuesday that Season 6, which premieres Oct. 31, will end the show’s run. It will pass the 100-episode mark in December and end with a total of 105 episodes. That’s nearly as many as the 109 for “The Closer,” from which “Major Crimes” spun off.

“The whole company of ‘Major Crimes’ is dedicated to making 2017-18 the best season yet,” series creator James Duff says in a statement. “We will finish our long run on TNT with a finale worthy of our loyal viewers and their years of unstinting support.”

The final season will have the squad tackling three big cases, each playing out over several episodes. It will also feature the return of Billy Burke as MCS nemesis Philip Stroh.

“‘Major Crimes’ has successfully navigated the many challenges that arise with a spinoff; the primary mission of which is staying true to its core DNA while expanding into unique territory all its own,” says Sarah Aubrey, head of original programming for TNT. “From Brenda Leigh Johnson to Commander Sharon Raydor, the cast and crew have done a phenomenal job of creating enduring characters — many of whom are celebrating 200 episodes together this season.”

“Major Crimes” is still a solid performer for TNT, although its ratings came down a bit in Season 5. It averaged a 0.4 rating among adults 18-49 and 3.19 million viewers the night it aired last season, vs. 0.5 and 3.57 million for Season 4. TNT says viewing on all platforms totaled 7.7 million viewers per episode.

The two-part series finale of is scheduled for Jan. 16.
