CBS is moving its rookie drama “Training Day” to Saturday nights starting in April, where it will play out the string on its season

In its place, “The Amazing Race” is getting an earlier premiere date on a different night. The show had been scheduled to debut Friday, April 21, but it’s moving up to Thursday, March 30. (CBS will air NCAA Tournament coverage on March 16 and 23.)

“Training Day” will resume in its new home at 9 p.m. ET/PT April 8, following “Ransom.” To fill the vacated spot on Friday, CBS will air four new episodes of “Undercover Boss” starting April 28. “MacGyver” finishes its season on April 21.

“Training Day,” like a lot of 10 p.m. dramas this season, has struggled in the ratings this season. Through six episodes it has averaged a 0.75 rating among adults 18-49 and 4.16 million viewers. The 18-49 rating was about a tenth of a point lower than “Pure Genius,” which occupied the timeslot earlier in the season.

The show was also hit by the death of star Bill Paxton on Feb. 26. “Training Day” had finished filming before his death from complications following surgery.
