Lizzie Borden is officially getting the axe as Lifetime has cancelled Christina Ricci's latest television series.

The Lizzie Borden Chronicles premiered on the cable channel on Easter Sunday as a spinoff of its popular television movie about the accused axe murder.

TV Line reports that Lifetime has officially chosen not to move forward with any future episodes of the period drama.

Chronicles presented a fictionalised story of Lizzie Borden (Ricci) moving to New York City after her highly-controversial acquittal for the murders of her father and stepmother.

Meanwhile, Pinkerton detective Charlie Siringo (Cole Hauser) is determined to solve a series of mysterious new murders linked Borden.

Ricci executive produced The Lizzie Borden Chronicles along with Judith Verno of Masters of Sex.
