MTV has reportedly cancelled its long-running dance competition show America's Best Dance Crew. The series, produced by American Idol judge Randy Jackson, debuted to strong numbers in 2008, averaging 2.7 million viewers a week, which earned it orders for more seasons.
Over its seven-season run, featuring judges like Shane Sparks, Lil Mama and JC Chasez, the reality programme would showcase hip-hop dance troupes from around the United States.
TVLine reports that despite its initially strong numbers, viewership for the show has waned in recent years.
Its season seven finale episode, broadcast in June, drew in slightly over a million viewers, failing to bring in MTV's key 12-34 demographic.
In a new statement, MTV has said: "We are grateful to Randy Jackson and [production studio] Warner Horizon for having brought our audience seven amazing seasons of dance... and look forward to more successful and dynamic entertaining collaborations in the future."
