Comedian Jerry Lewis has slammed reality shows for what he sees as 'destroying' the good name of television.

The 85-year-old entertainer was particularly angered by music talent shows, which he says celebrate people who have not earned their fame.

"The kids who're on American Idol, they're all McDonald's wipe outs," Lewis said at a recent press conference, according to EW. "They all worked there and now they're doing [reality shows]."

Lewis's disdain for reality shows isn't just limited to talent contests such as American Idol and America's Got Talent; the comedy veteran also had strong words about The Biggest Loser.

"Who gives a s**t?" Lewis said, regarding the NBC weight loss show. "The industry has destroyed itself."

Despite an intense hatred of reality shows, Lewis said that he still has great respect for television in general.

"I don't allow people in my family to use the term 'TV'. It's 'television'. It's a miracle and deserves respect," he explained.

Earlier this year it was announced that Lewis would be stepping down as the host of the annual muscular dystrophy telethon after 45 years.

Lewis made the comments while promoting his upcoming documentary, The Method to the Madness of Jerry Lewis.
