In a bit of unsurprising news, “Big Brother’s” future has been secured for another season

Announced this morning, CBS has officially renewed the long-running reality-competition series for a twenty-second season, set to air next year. The renewal comes with just a few weeks left to go in “Big Brother’s” current season, which has been regularly airing new episodes on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday nights for the past several weeks.

Additionally, the network has confirmed that Julie Chen Moonves will be returning as the show’s host for the new season. Neither announcements are surprising, as “Big Brother” has remained the network’s highest-rated series of the summer, even despite its age.

In the adults 18-49 demo, “Big Brother” has been averaging solid 1.1, 1.0, and 1.1 live + same day ratings on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday nights this year, down just a bit from the trio of 1.5s that it averaged last season.

So even despite the show’s long, continued tenure on the network, and a series of small but consistent year-to-year dips in the ratings, it looks like “Big Brother’s” places on CBS’ roster remains secure for at least one more year.

The show’s current season will air its 90-minute finale episode on the network on Wednesday, September 25.
