FOX has officially renewed its newest reality-competition series, “The Masked Singer,” for a second season this afternoon. The news comes less than a month after the series premiered on the network in early January, as all of the networks continue to work on cementing their original programming rosters for the 2019-20 TV season.

“The response to ‘The Masked Singer’ has been fantastic, and we are thrilled to bring it back for another season,” said Rob Wade, President of Alternative Entertainment and Specials at FOX. “I am so happy to see a singing peacock burst into pop culture! ‘The Masked Singer’ is unique, bold, original and embraces the DNA of all the best Fox unscripted series. We look forward to season two being even more fun, weird and wonderful than the first.”

Four episodes into its first season, “The Masked Singer” is currently averaging a massive 2.5 live + same day rating among adults 18-49 – making it easily the highest-rated freshman show of the season. The show’s premiere also generated the greatest Live +7 gain in both adults 18-49 and total viewers of any unscripted TV debut ever.

Based on a South Korean format, “The Masked Singer” is a singing competition hosted by Nick Cannon, and featuring celebrity contestants facing off against each other, while dressed head to toe in an elaborate costume to conceal their identity. It is then up to the show’s four judges – Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong, Nicole Scherzinger, and Robin Thicke – to try and determine the identity of each contestant, with one celebrity being eliminated unmasked each week.

“The Masked Singer” airs Wednesday nights on FOX.
