ABC has set a premiere date for its revival of “American Idol,” and as a lot of schedule-watchers suspected, it will make its home on Sunday night

“Idol” will debut at 8 p.m. ET/PT Sunday, March 11. As it did for most of its 15-season run on FOX, the show will run for two hours. The network hasn’t said yet what will occupy the hours before and after it; “America’s Funniest Home Videos” and “Shark Tank” currently run from 8-10 p.m. on Sunday.

“Idol” host Ryan Seacrest announced the premiere date Monday morning on his daytime show, “Live with Kelly and Ryan.” The Sunday-night home for “Idol” will allow Seacrest to make the cross-country trip from “Live’s” home in New York for “Idol” tapings in Los Angeles once the early rounds of the show are over.

Seacrest will be joined on the show by judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. ABC and “Idol’s” producers haven’t said if they’ve tinkered with the show’s format at all for its new home.

Sunday nights have been a struggle for ABC in the past couple of seasons, so “Idol” will almost certainly give the network a ratings boost on the night come spring. “Shark Tank” is the net’s top-rated show on the night at the moment, but it averages just a 1.1 rating among adults 18-49 for its initial airing.

The final season of “Idol” on FOX in 2015-16 averaged a 2.2 — far from its heights in the mid-2000s but a number ABC would be thrilled to have now.
