The CW announced today (October 14) that Tyra Banks's modelling competition will not be given a 23rd cycle, making Friday, December 4 its series finale air date.

"America's Next Top Model was a successful franchise for two networks, first at UPN and then The CW, and it became not just a ratings hit, but a global phenomenon," network boss Mark Pedowitz said today.

"I want to thank Tyra and Ken for all their years of success in establishing a show that was not just popular in the US, but all across the world."

To celebrate the series, The CW is putting together a retrospective programme to air next year.

America's Next Top Model premiered on UPN in 2003, and made the jump when UPN and WB combined to form The CW.

The reality series became a pop culture franchise, spawning versions in the UK, France, Australia, Germany and Russia.

Banks also offered a spotlight to many fashion icons on America's Next Top Model, with judges past and present including Janice Dickinson, Twiggy, André Leon Talley, Kelly Cutrone and J Alexander.
