The streaming giant announced today that new customers in the aforementioned regions will now have to pay $9.99 per month - up $1 - for the multi-screen standard HD plan.

Existing customers will maintain their $8.99-per-month rate for the next year, at which time their fee will also increase.

Netflix announced today (November 8): "To continue adding more TV shows and movies including many Netflix original titles, we are modestly raising the price for some new members in the US.

"As a thank you to existing Netflix members — who aren't already benefiting from grandfathering — we will maintain their current price for a year."
