‘Despicable Me’ beats ‘Social Network’ at UK box office

Despicable Me

Despicable Me has beaten The Social Network to the number one spot at the UK box office.

The 3D animation’s £3.6 million haul is enough to see off David Fincher’s Facebook drama, which pulls in £2.4 million in ticket sales on its first weekend on release. In third place is Vampires Suck, a Twilight spoof from the team behind Date Movie and Meet The Spartans.

Last week’s chart-topper Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps falls to number four, while Katherine Heigl’s Life As We Know It completes the top five.

Elsewhere, Made In Dagenham maintains its place at number seven and Zac Efron’s Death & Life Of Charlie St. Cloud experiences a steep drop in business, falling six spots to number nine.
