‘Wall Street’ sequel tops UK box office

Michael Douglas and Shia LeBoeuf in Wall Street Money Never Sleeps

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps has topped the UK box office on its debut weekend on release.

Oliver Stone’s financial drama, which brings Michael Douglas’s crooked corporate raider Gordon Gekko back to the big screen, holds off competition from new Katherine Heigl and Zac Efron movies to secure the top spot.

Both Life As We Know It and Death & Life Of Charlie St. Cloud fall short of matching Wall Street‘s £1.7 million haul, charting at numbers two and three respectively.

Last week’s number one The Other Guys and The Town complete the top five.

Elsewhere, Buried takes a sharp fall as it drops six places to number nine and Toy Story 3 is behind it at number 10. The Pixar sequel has now spent three months in the UK chart and taken in more than £73 million in total
