Ant-Man defeats Minions at the UK box office

Forget Yellowjacket, Ant-Man has triumphed in his biggest battle against a whole other yellow army at the UK box office.

Marvel’s latest superhero film snatched the top spot from Minions, taking £4,011,345 to end the latter’s three-week reign.

Paul Rudd’s debut in the comic franchise opened with $114.4m worldwide, with its $58m in the US making it Marvel’s lowest opening weekend takings since 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. Minions added another £2.7m, taking it’s current UK total to £32.29m.

Seth MacFarlane’s Ted 2 slips into third place, earning a further £1.36m in its second weekend. Andre Rieu’s 2015 Maastricht Concert debuts in fifth, taking over £1.1m.

Other new entries in the Top 10 include Bajrangi Bhaijaan at number seven, and horror flick The Gallows squeezing in at number nine.

Amy Winehouse documentary Amy secures a third week in the chart, with a further £315,421 taking its total to just over £2.06m
