Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie stuns UK box office

Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie has stunned the UK box office on its debut weekend on release.

Brendan O’Carroll’s big-screen spinoff from his hit BBC sitcom earned £4.3 million to secure its place at the top of the UK cinema chart.

The film’s box office performance has outpaced recent TV-to-film adaptation Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa, which opened to £2.2 million last summer.

However, Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie still falls some way short of matching the The Inbetweeners Movie, a big earner in 2011 with a £13 million first-weekend haul and £57 million in cumulative box office takings.

Elsewhere in this week’s chart, new releases Chef, How to Train Your Dragon 2 (not on full release in Scotland and Ireland) and jukebox musical Walking on Sunshine all made it into the top ten.

The UK box office top ten on full:
1. (-) Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie – £4,301,306
2. (1) The Fault in Our Stars – £1,699,690
3. (2) 22 Jump Street – £1,203,390
4. (3) Maleficent – £819,504
5. (-) Chef – £605,976
6. (-) How to Train Your Dragon 2 – £604,325
7. (-) Walking on Sunshine – £403,490
8. (4) X-Men: Days of Future Past – £319,270
9. (5) Edge of Tomorrow – £315,900
10. (6) Jersey Boys – £195,718
