‘Insidious 2’ beats ‘Rush’ at UK box office

Insidious: Chapter 2 has topped the UK box office on its debut weekend on release.

The horror sequel, starring Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne, held off strong competition from Ron Howard’s Rush and action-thriller White House Down to secure first place.

The new Insidious‘s £2.8 million gross is double that of its predecessor, which opened in third place in 2011 behind Thor and Fast & Furious 5.

Elsewhere in this week’s chart About Time slipped down to number four, while animation Justin and the Knights of Valour rounded out the top five.

The biggest faller was Vin Diesel’s Riddick, which dipped 73% in ticket sales to tumble down to number nine.
