Monsters University has topped the UK box office on its first weekend on release.
The Pixar prequel earned £3.4 million to hold off competition from last week’s number one Despicable Me 2 and secure the chart top spot.
Pacific Rim, the monsters vs robots blockbuster directed by Guillermo del Toro, matched its US box office placing by charting at number three with £2.19 million from its 494 locations.
Both Now You See Me and The Internship experienced sharp ticket sales drop-offs of more than 60% to complete the top five.
Elsewhere Bollywood picture Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is the only other new release to make the top ten, landing at number nine with £89,348.
