Olympus Has Fallen beats Tom Cruise’s Oblivion

Olympus Has Fallen has topped the UK box office on its first weekend on release.

Gerard Butler and Aaron Eckhart’s White House-set action movie pulled in £2.2 million to beat Tom Cruise’s Oblivion and secure first place. The sci-fi movie experienced a sharp 67% drop in ticket sales to fall into second spot.

Evil Dead, Fede Alvarez’s remake of the cult classic horror, debuts at number three with £1.3 million. DreamWorks animated movie The Croods falls two places to four, while The Place Beyond the Pines rounds out the top five.

Elsewhere, Pierce Brosnan’s romantic comedy Love Is All You Need debuts at number seven with £202,176.
