Twilight Saga overtakes Skyfall at UK box-office

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 has opened in first place at the UK box office.

The Twilight finale earns £15.8 million from 558 locations, making it the second biggest debut of 2012 in the UK. Breaking Dawn – Part 2‘s first-weekend earnings outstrip those of the The Avengers (£15m) and The Dark Knight Rises (£14m), but fall behind Skyfall‘s £20 million bow.

Breaking Dawn – Part 2 also posts the biggest debut of all the Twilight movies in the UK. Predecessor Breaking Dawn – Part 1 pulled in £13.91m in 2011, Eclipse £13.76m in 2010, New Moon £11.68m in 2009 and Twilight £2.51m in 2008.

Skyfall falls to number two on its third weekend on release, losing 47 per cent in ticket sales to earn £5.5m. Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted falls a spot to number three, while Shah Rukh Khan’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan – the final movie from Yash Chopra – is at number four.

Ben Affleck’s Argo completes the top five.

The Master, which widened its screen count after an initial release at the Odeon Leicester Square, climbs up from number 16 to six.
