Max Biamou equaliser earns a point

Coventry City recorded a second stalemate in the space of seven days against League One promotion rivals Ipswich Town in a full throttle encounter at St Andrew’s.

The Sky Blues once again came from behind after the visitors took a first half lead from the head of Will Keane who passed up the opportunity to double the advantage when he hit the post as the visitors looked in control to the break.

But a second half fightback saw Max Biamou pull City level in the 56th minute, sparking a thrilling second 45 in which Mark Robins’s men had chances to score a winner and thoroughly deserved their hard-fought point.

There was little to choose between the two sides with chances few and far between in a tight start to this top six clash with neither side registering a shot on target in the opening 30 minutes.

The Sky Blues edged possession early on as they started the brighter but Ipswich grew into the game and almost scored when City were opened up as Gwion Edwards was played clean through on the right and hit a hard and low angled shot past the far post, with Alan Judge sliding in.

The visitors enjoyed increasing pressure and gained control of possession as the half went on and made that count in the 31st minute when a ball into the box from a second phase corner was met by Keane who headed home from five yards out to give his side the lead.

City failed to deal with another corner minutes later when the striker almost doubled the lead and his tally when he was allowed a free header which hit the post as Town asserted their authority.

Coventry were forced to switch to a back four when Dom Hyam went off injured, replaced by midfielder Jordan Shipley, while Callum O’Hare went close to pulling level when he headed over just before the break.

But Robins’s men made a positive start to the second half when Jordan Shipley was denied by a good save from Will Norris, with Max Biamou failing to convert the loose ball.

The fans’ favourite, however, was bang on target in the 56th minute when Liam Kelly slipped him through into the box and he hit the ball hard and low across the keeper and into the bottom corner to pull his side level.

The fightback was on and O’Hare almost put the home side in front when Kelly threaded another superb pass into the box where the Villa loan man hit it first time onto the bar.

Both sides pushed for a winner with Kyle McFadzean passing up a perfect opportunity when he headed straight at the keeper from a late corner while Jamie Allen fired wide deep in stoppage time as City finished the stronger of the two.

Ipswich Town and Coventry City have been charged by the FA following their League One game on Saturday, which the Sky Blues won 2-1.

An altercation followed an off-the-ball incident involving Ipswich's Gwion Edwards and Coventry's Sam McCallum in the 57th minute of the game.

The clubs are accused of failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion.

They have until Friday 13 December to respond to the charge.
