Train travellers faced huge delays last night after flooding on the railway lines meant they were stranded in Nuneaton.

Hours of heavy rain across the region yesterday (October 26) caused significant disruption, with rain from fields draining onto the line in the Stafford area, making the section of the railway between Lichfield Trent Valley and Manchester unusable.

Hundreds of passengers on the West Coast Main Line - which connects London Euston with Coventry, Nuneaton, and much of the north - were badly affected.

As a result of the flooding, many trains were reaching Nuneaton , but going no further.

For those who were hoping to travel further north, it came as a real blow - and many took to social media to air their frustrations.

National Rail posted pictures to their social media channels, showing just how bad the flooding was in the Stoke-on-Trent area.



Virgin Trains' social media was inundated with unhappy passengers.

People complained they had not been given information and asked how they would get home.

According to a number of Tweets from Virgin Trains, staff were advising passengers to claim compensation for their delays, in addition to organising vehicles to transport customers to their intended destinations.

Passengers were also offered hotels in Birmingham and other areas if they could not get home, and told they would have their taxi journeys reimbursed.

Today, it has been confirmed that those who chose not to travel yesterday, but still have their tickets, will be able to travel today.

However, some disruption is still expected, as a result of trains being displaced as a result of yesterday's chaos.

In terms of the lines themselves, National Rail has confirmed that trains are able to run as usual today, following the flooding in the Stoke-on-Trent area.
