The car park will be built on the existing Salt Lane car park
A new 600 space multi-storey car park is to be built in Coventry city centre.
The car park will be built on the existing Salt Lane car park behind Ford’s Hospital in Greyfriars Lane and will be six-storeys high.
It will be built to support the new water park - and will open in time for the water park’s opening in 2019.
A planning application has been submitted for the car park, which will have electric charging spaces and cycle parking, as well as full CCTV coverage for security.
Cllr Jayne Innes, cabinet member for public services at Coventry City Council, said: “The city centre is growing and there are some great new attractions on the way.
“We need the car parks to support them and encourage local people and visitors so they know they can park easily and safely.
“This will be a high quality car park that will give visitors a fantastic impression of Coventry and support the new restaurants, visitor attractions and shopping outlets that are set to transform our city.
“It has been designed to the highest standards and to show respect to nearby sites such as Ford’s Hospital and I am sure it will be a very welcome addition to the city centre.”
Drivers will enter off Salt Lane and leave by Greyfriars Lane, opposite the new water park, with pedestrian entrances positioned to serve Broadgate and the water park.
The building has been designed so it is sympathetic to the nearby historic Ford’s Hospital.
The car park will feature barriers that operate through automatic number plate recognition (ANPR).
They'll need the extra parking spaces for all the extra visitors when Coventry is voted "City of Culture"!
