Machete-wielding carjackers force kids out of car

The car-jacking was among several on the same evening

A terrified mum pulled her children from her car as machete wielding robbers ordered her to hand over the vehicle.

The horrifying incident was one of three car-jackings in Coventry on Sunday night which West Midlands Police say are connected.

Bradned dangerous individuals, police have drafted in extra officers from outside of the city in a bid to apprehend the gang.

After coming face-to-face with the thugs the mum posted on social media appealing for help to track down the car.

Widely shared on Facebook, she said: "At 19:15 tonight I have had my car carjacked off my drive with what is believed to be a machete bt 3 (possibly 4) young men.

"I had my 2 boys in the car, which thankfully one of the attackers let me get my boys out of the car.

"It's a white Seat Leon BN63 HBK

"Please share and let the police know of any information. Thank you."

She later added a further comment to confirm the weapon used was a machete.

That attack in Stivichall was one of four violent incidents across the city in just over four hours.

The first incident happened at around 4.15pm, while the fourth happened about 7.20pm.

The incidents involved a husband and wife being ambushed on their drive and threatened with knives, a man robbed of a Ford Focus and another attempt to smash into an Audi.

Finally the mum and her children were targeted at around 7.15pm.

Police are linking the incidents after a number of threats had been made to the people involved with large knives and weapons.

Officers were alerted to the first robbery at 4.15pm when a man and his wife were ambushed on their driveway in Abbey Road, Whitley, and threatened with knives before thieves made off in the couple’s white Volvo V40.

Just 30 minutes later, a man was robbed of his red Ford Focus in Chetton Avenue, Radford − again by men carrying weapons.

At 7pm offenders made a failed attempt to smash their way into an Audi A3 in Anglian Way, Stoke.

The fourth incident saw a family threatened with knives and metal bars as they returned home in Dawlish Drive, Stivichall, at around 7.20pm.

They demanded keys and drove off in the Seat Leon after the victim had pulled her children to safety.

West Midlands Police detectives − who have since recovered the Focus and Leon − suspect the incidents are linked and are appealing for information.

Detective Inspector Stuart Bell, said: "This is a shocking series of robberies involving weapons that was undoubtedly terrifying for the victims.

"We have drafted in additional officers from outside Coventry to help in the investigation and to catch those responsible.

"A dark blue Ford Fiesta was spotted at the scene of all the incidents so our belief is that this is a linked series of offences; witnesses have described one white offender and at least two black men as being involved.

"We need to catch the men responsible as soon as possible: they are dangerous individuals and ones who think nothing about threatening violence against innocent people and children.

"I’d urge any witnesses, anyone who saw a dark blue Fiesta in the area at the time, or anyone who suspects they know who may be involved to get in touch."

Anyone with information is urged to call West Midlands Police on 101, Live Chat at WMP Online between 8am to midnight or to call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Callers won’t be asked their names and calls can’t be traced.
