A bus company has stopped serving an area of Coventry because drivers keep being robbed.

Travel De Courcey said it made the decision following "consecutive robbery attacks" in the Wood End area.

The 703 bus, which goes from the the hospital to Tesco in Longford, has not been serving Roseberry Avenue or Hillmorton Road since the decision was made.

Instead, the bus runs through Bell Green and along Deedmore Road to Potters Green, skipping Wood End.

Travel De Courcey, an independent company serving Coventry and the West Midlands, announced the decision on its website on December 14.

A statement reads: "We are really sorry to announce that due to consecutive robbery attacks to our buses the last couple of months in the area of Wood End, for yours and our drivers' safety unfortunately we will have to suspend our services at Roseberry Ave and Hillmorton Rd until further notice.

"From now on the 703 will be going down Henley Rd and will be turning left at Deedmore Rd and vice versa, skipping Roseberry Ave and Hillmorton Rd.

"Thank you for understanding."

It is thought the original route will be reinstated in the New Year, but this is yet to be confirmed.

You can't blame them can you?

Sadly, a few ruin it for the many.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

Bus firm's U-turn on robbery plagued route

Buses will start serving Wood End from today after a spate of robberies led to a service being cut.

Bus company Travel De Courcey announced they were diverting their buses away from Wood End after "consecutive robbery attacks" and "general anti-social behaviour" in the area.

The 703 bus, which goes from the the hospital to Tesco in Longford, has not served Wood End for over a month.

City councillor Ed Ruane, who represents the Henley ward, said he had been getting complaints from residents who were unable to get to work and hospital appointments.

A spokesperson for Travel De Courcey said the service had been cut for the safety of passengers and drivers.

This week the company announced that the service would resume its route through Roseberry Avenue and Hillmorton Road from today.
