One of Coventry's own talents will be appearing on TV in the run up to Christmas, with the Queen of handmade and Christmas gifts.

Bree MacDonald, from Allesley, will have a guest appearance on the Channel 4 programme, Kirstie's Handmade Christmas.

Bree, who is originally from Harare, Zimbabwe has lived here for 20 years.

She specialises in making extremely hot chilli sauces, jams and chutneys using freshly sourced, traditional authentic southern African ingredients.

Bree applied for the series, presented by Kirstie Allsopp, back in the summer and was thrilled to be selected to showcase her products i n the ‘Best Christmas Hamper’section.

The judges in the hamper category included Chetna Makan, who was a semi-finalist on series five of the Great British Bake Off.

Bree said: “I was inspired to apply for the show as I love a Christmas hamper and I wanted to share my homemade African produce to a wider UK audience.

"My heritage and culture are extremely important to me and watching my rural Grandmother make some of these recipes with no access to electricity, machinery or running water inspired me.

"My African roots are where my love for preserved foods comes from.

“I began making my products as gifts for family and friends and they were so well received that I decided to turn my love for homemade African food into a business.

“I was delighted to feature on the programme and really enjoyed meeting the judges and the other contestants.

"It was a fantastic experience and one that has motivated me even further on my journey to bring traditional African food to the UK”.

All the food is produced by Bree in her own home kitchen and her company, MmmNandi Homemade is in its fourth year of trading.

Bree has been a regular feature at local food fayres and markets around the Warwickshire as well as selling her produce weekly at Coventry’s Quirky Market.

She has presented a live cooking demonstration at the popular Leamington Food Festival for the past three years.

Viewers can see Bree on our screens on December 21.
