Coventry has missed out on becoming the location for a new national headquarters for Channel 4
The city did not make the latest shortlist following the West Midlands Combined Authority’s (WMCA) formal bid to bring the broadcaster to the region in May.
The bid had focused on potential sites in Birmingham and Coventry, highlighting the many strengths of the West Midlands under the slogan ‘Get Closer’.
Coventry, like Birmingham, had been earmarked as a suitable location by the WMCA due to its connectedness, its diversity, its culture and the exciting events coming to the city.
But of the two West Midlands cities, only Birmingham made the latest shortlist.
West Midlands mayor Andy Street said: “Delighted Birmingham has been shortlisted with Leeds and Manchester to be the new HQ for Channel 4.
“Disappointed Coventry has not been selected.
“Now the region must get behind Birmingham and help us bring this home.”
Coventry South MP Jim Cunningham said: “Great to hear that Birmingham is still in the running to host Channel 4’s new national HQ."
No suprise there, it'll be Manchester.
