Two would-be thieves caught after one of them was stopped for drink-driving

Two would-be robbers were caught in a village armed with screwdrivers and bolt cutters



The pair from Coventry were found out when Darren Hoyle was stopped and found to be drink-driving in Cofton Hackett, Worcestershire, on February 25.

He was found to have 42 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 mcg.

Hoyle, 35, of The Lindfield, Stoke Aldermoor, admitted a charge of drink-driving when he appeared at Coventry Magistrates’ Court, as well further offences of going equipped for theft (bolt cutters) and driving without insurance or a licence.

He was banned from driving for a year, fined £120 and ordered to pay £185 court costs and a £85 victim surcharge.

His accomplice - Matthew McKay, 35, of The Cornfield, Stoke Aldermoor - also admitted going equipped for theft (screwdrivers) and was given a community order including a rehabilitation activity requirement and ordered to pay £185 court costs and a £85 victim surcharge.
