Year 8 pupils at King Henry VIII School in Coventry have raised a whopping £1,320 for Zoe’s Place.

The baby hospice became the year group’s chosen charity after pupils heard a presentation from community fundraiser Jane McGaffney before Christmas.

Since then, the youngsters have been busy raising money in a variety of ways.

A Paws for Thought card scheme saw pupils doing small acts of kindness in exchange for £1, which they stuck on their cards and returned once complete.

One filled card raises enough to provide 30 minutes of care for a child at Zoe’s Place.

Other fundraising activities included sponsored walks, an ice cream and lolly sale during the hot weather in June and a cake sale.

There has even been a sweepstake to guess the name and weight of head of Year 8 Mrs Kacsur’s baby, which is due in August.

Zoe’s Place, based in Ash Green, is a 24-hour home-from-home care facility for babies and children up to five years old with life-limiting or life-threatening illnesses.

Alongside the special facilities designed for the children, the hospice also provides valuable support for the whole family. Visit the website for more information.
