Ernesford Grange Academy declared inadequate by Ofsted and placed in special measures
Standards at a school which turned into an academy to improve have got even worse, say inspectors.
Education inspectors from Ofsted have now placed Coventry secondary school Ernesford Grange Academy in special measures.
Special measures means the school is failing to provide its pupils with an acceptable standard of education, and is not showing the capacity to make the improvements needed.
Oftsed say that too many pupils at the school sit exams before they are ready, behaviour is poor and too many pupils are missing lessons.
Four years ago the school, then called Ernesford Grange Community School, was declared "inadequate" by Ofsted. Being placed in special measures is the grading below that.
The school came under pressure from then education secretary Michael Gove to become an academy to improve.
It became part of the Sidney Stringer Multi Academy Trust, brought in a new uniform and installed prefect-style school leaders.
The crumbling buildings in Princethorpe Way, Ernesford Grange, were replaced with modern premises.
At the time executive principal of the Ernesford Grange Academy and leader of the Sidney Stringer Multi Academy Trust Wendy Tomes promised the school would first get an Ofsted good judgement and then be rated outstanding.
But when Ofsted visited in December last year they criticised pupil performance and teaching.
