A Coventry actor who appeared in gangster movie The Guvnors has been convicted of harassing his ex-girlfriend.

Manvir Singh Hayre, 35, of Dodgson Close, Longford, was found guilty of one count of harassment without violence after a trial at Coventry magistrates’ court.

The court heard how Hayre, who is a well-known member of the West Midlands’ Asian community, would harass his ex-partner at work and on Facebook.

John Bartlett, prosecuting, told magistrates how the actor would drive past the victim’s place of work and rev the engine of his car.

He said: “He drove past slow, revved the engine of his car and she recognised the car and recognised him.

“She was of such fear that she hid behind the till service point.”

Mr Bartlett added that there were Facebook comments to consider, too, such as calling the victim a “psycho stalker”, which he described as being “derogatory and personal in nature”.

Perminder Singh Bassi, defending Hayre, told magistrates that his client was sorry for his actions.

Mr Bassi explained that Hayre thought things were being said behind his back by relations of the victim.

Mr Bassi said: “He accepts that they were stupid. He regrets his actions.”

The Longford businessman - who appeared in Brit-flick The Guvnors, as well as ITV’s Deals, Wheels and Steals , was handed a two year restraining order and ordered to pay £1,005 when he was sentenced on October 10.

He was also told that he would have to undertake 20 days of probation activites.

Sentencing, magistrate Tony Kiely, said: “These are serious matters. They are more complicated than at first appearance.

“We are of the view that the offence is serious enough to warrant a community order.

“The community order will be for a period of 12 months with a probation activity requirement of 20 days.”

When handing out the restraining order, Mr Kiely stressed the importance of ensuring that Hayre had no contact with the victim for two years.

He added: “I’m going to warn you now that to breach a restraining order can result in a prison sentence of at least five years.

“That is how serious we view this court order.”
