A driver who crashed into two parked cars near Coventry this morning was more than four times over the drink-drive limit.

Police were called to the junction of Cross Road and Somers Road, in Keresley, at 10.30am, after reports that a car had flipped over and was on fire.

Warwickshire Police’s Operational Patrol Unit tweeted a photo of the small red hatchback saying that a 23-year-old man was arrested after he “blew 150” in a roadside breath test.

He refused medical treatment at the scene and was taken to a police station where he blew 126 on the official intoximeter machine.

The legal limit is 35 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

A Warwickshire Police spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a collision on the Cross Roads, Keresley End at around 10am this morning.

“Fire and ambulance also attended and a red Fiesta was found to be in collision with two parked cars.

“A 23-year-old man from Coventry, who was driving the Fiesta, is currently in police custody for providing a positive breath sample.

“The road was clear as of 11.10am.”

Witnesses are asked to call Warwickshire Police on 101.

Police have charged a man with drink driving after a crash in Keresley earlier in the month.

Ryan Curtis Chapman, of Fivefield Road, has been charged with “driving a motor vehicle when alcohol level above limit”.

During the incident, which happened near the junction of Cross Road and Somers Road, in Keresley, at 10.30am on August 1, two parked cars were damaged.

Following the incident, a Warwickshire Police spokesman said: “Fire and ambulance also attended and a red Fiesta was found to be in collision with two parked cars.

“A 23-year-old man from Coventry, who was driving the Fiesta, is currently in police custody for providing a positive breath sample.”

Police were called to a similar accident on Sunday evening in Stoke Heath.

A suspected drink-driver was arrested by police after smashing his car in to two parked cars and then running from the scene.

Curtis Chapman was banned for 29 months and ordered to complete 250 hours unpaid work

A young man who crashed his car while rushing to a friend’s wedding was still more than three times over the drink-drive limit from a party the night before.

Magistrates heard that Curtis Ryan Chapman, 23 of Fivefield Road, Keresley, rolled his red Ford Fiesta after crashing into two parked cars near the junction of Cross Road and Somers Road, Keresley, at 10.30am on August 1.

At the hearing in Leamington on Monday, Chapman admitted drink-driving and was disqualified from driving for 29 months.

He also received a 12-month community order comprising 250 hours unpaid work and told to pay a £85 victim surcharge and £65 costs.

Prosecutor Jez Newsome told the court: “Monday August 1 at 10am, police were called to a road traffic collision in Somers Road in Keresley End, Coventry.

“A red Ford Fiesta driven by Mr Chapman has collided with two parked cars and the Ford Fiesta rolled over onto its roof in the middle of the road.

“He had been to a party the night before and stayed on the sofa. He woke up a 9.55am and needed to be at a wedding at 10am.

“He jumped into his car and drove. He clipped a curb. He hit two parked cars.”

Mr Newsome said Chapman blew a reading of 126mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.

Mark Parry, defending, told the court that Chapman had no intention to drive and was suffering from the impact of his actions.

“The facts are very straight forward,” he said.

“He had been to a party the night before.

“He had no intention to drive home at all. His actions were of panic.

“He understands that he is going to be disqualified.

“It has had a massive impact already. Mr Chapman had been a pipe fitter for the last two years. He was instantly dismissed from that employment.”

Magistrates told Chapman he was “very lucky to still be here.”
