Asda follows Morrisons is cutting price of petrol to less than a quid
Black Friday fever seems to have hit the petrol pumps as supermarket giants slash the cost of fuel to under £1.
Asda is cutting the cost of a litre of unleaded to 99.7p for the next three days at refuelling stations across the country.
The four-pence drop in unleaded is partially matched with a three-pence fall in diesel prices for three days.
A forecourt battle is now waging between Walmart owned Asda and Morrisons, with Morrisons reportedly claiming that Asda had copied their idea to cut the cost of petrol.
Since the start of the week, Morrisons have been selling a litre of petrol for under £1, but it is only available to customers who spend over £40 in their stores.

Cheapest Coventry petrol and diesel: Where to fill up for less
The cost of filling up your car is cheaper than it has been for six years in the region.
Last weekend Asda announced three days of price cuts making a litre of petrol cost less than £1.
In the last few weeks, diesel has dropped to as low as 109.48p a litre across the country, with its cost on November 30 acting as its lowest price since December 2009.
The forecourt figures mean the cost of filling up a 55-litre family car with petrol has plunged by £7.75 compared to a year ago, while a tank of diesel is £8.95 cheaper, according to data released by the RAC’s Fuel Watch.
The RAC have predicted that prices will continue to fall - a great Christmas present for motorists.
Here is where you can get the cheapest fuel in Coventry and Warwickshire (prices correct as of December 3).

Cost of diesel set to fall below £1 per litre
The cost of diesel fell below £1 per litre for the first time in six years at the weekend as the supermarket forecourt war heated up.
News of plummeting fuel costs arrived on Sunday when Morrisons lowered the cost of a litre of diesel to 99.7p.
Asda and Tesco announced they would be mirroring the supermarket giant by dropping the price of their diesel to 99.7p per litre today (Monday).
Andy Peake, Asda’s senior petrol director, said: “We’re glad to be leading the way and investing in some New Year cheer for customers by bringing the cost of diesel to below £1 for the first time in over six years.
“This latest announcement shows that we’re committed to being the driving force behind lowering fuel prices.”
Sainsbury's have announced they will also be following the competitions’ lead by lowering the price of a litre of fuel to 99.9p
Avishai Moor, head of fuel for Sainsbury’s, said: “This is great news for diesel drivers and kicks off 2016 on a really positive note.
“We hope this will help motorists to balance their budgets in the quieter period after the New Year.”
The price of a litre of petrol has long cost less than £1. Prices fell to around 99.7p per litre on average in November last year with supermarkets announcing the first of their price slashes on Black Friday (November 27).
Breakdown service, RAC, welcomed the diesel price drop but said that it was long overdue.
A spokesman said: “Diesel drivers will clearly welcome this move by the big supermarkets, although it would be fair to say it is overdue. We hope other supermarkets and the cheaper fuel retailers will follow suit.
“This should reduce the average price of diesel for motorists everywhere who will benefit from the low price of crude oil.”

Boost For Drivers As Stores Cut Diesel Price
Supermarkets Asda and Tesco have cut the price of a litre of diesel to 97.7p amid tumbling oil prices.
Asda, which was the first to announce a cut, said the 2p reduction meant diesel was at its lowest price in over six years. Unleaded petrol remains at 99.7p.
It said these were the maximum prices motorists would have to pay at all of its 279 filling stations across the UK.
Tesco followed suit saying it was cutting the price of diesel to 97.7p at all of its 500 filling stations.
Asda's senior petrol director, Andy Peake, said: "We're delighted to be the first retailer to take diesel to its lowest price level in over six years."
Peter Cattell, fuel director for Tesco, said: "We know our customers really value low fuel prices and having diesel for 97.7p a litre will give our customers a big helping hand."
The reductions come days after the price of a barrel of Brent crude oil fell below $28 to its lowest level since November 2003. It has dropped by around three-quarters since topping $115 in the summer of 2014.
Steve Gooding, director of the RAC foundation, said: "The wholesale price of diesel has been below that of petrol since early December so it is right that the benefits retailers have enjoyed in reduced costs are finally passed on to motorists."
Fuel price campaigners believe motorists are being denied even larger savings on diesel because of increased profits in the supply chain.
A study by FairFuelUK found that, since May last year, oil prices in sterling have fallen by more than 54% but retailers have cut pump prices by just 35%.
The report claimed that retailers' profit margin for diesel is 11p per litre compared with just 5.8p for petrol. It argued that diesel should be at least 3p per litre lower than petrol.
