John Bishop came out on top of the ratings (outside soaps of course) on Monday night.
His Christmas special on BBC One entertained an average overnight audience of 3.93 million (18.4%) at 9pm. Earlier, documentary Cue the Queen intrigued 3.39m (16.6%) at 7pm.
On BBC Two, University Challenge quizzed 2.52m (11.2%) at 8pm, followed by Only Connect with 2.11m (9.4%) at 8.30pm, Gorilla Family and Me with 1.94m (9.1%) at 9pm and Mock the Week with 1.70m (9.4%) at 10pm.
ITV's making-of documentary for The Sound of Music Live brought in 2.17m (9.6%) at 8pm (125k/0.6% on +1), while BAFTA's Downton Abbey celebration attracted 2.30m (10.8%) at 9pm (178k/1.1%).
On Channel 4, Food Unwrapped Christmas appealed to 1.73m (7.7%) at 8pm (177k/0.8%), followed by Rich Kids of Instagram with 1.05m (4.9%) at 9pm (167k/1.0%). The final Fargo thrilled 590k (3.6%) at 10pm.
On E4, the Made in Chelsea Christmas special was seen by 460k (2.2%) at 9pm (152k/0.9%).
